During the last year, we wanted our family to Come Together around a creative activity. As a salesman and special needs educator by trade, we sought a way for our kids to both create with their hands and find a new means of self-expression, all while learning the skills of running a business. We like to start ‘em young. And so, with that, we did – quite literally – Start The Fire.

As soon as we began candle-making, we knew it was the perfect mix of all our respective skills. Our oldest? He is the producer, working behind-the-scenes to bring big ideas to light through decisive planning.

Our middle child, the composer, could read music before reading a book. Not kidding. Her artistic spirit and love for music was a natural inspiration. And finally, our youngest is the manager – outgoing and a born storyteller, making connections every step of the way.

We slowly molded this spark of an idea into what it is today. A representation of the idea that there is a candle in every soul, and in life’s beautiful little moments there is often a story to tell or memory to recollect. Senses, like sound and smell, help to bring those to the surface – and candles create the perfect environment to do so.

We could not simply create any old candle. In both conception and composition, Mixtape Candles are a cut above.
